**COURSE UPDATE**
The Pig & Poultry Production Process
Trade Awareness Course
On Tuesday 5th & Wednesday 6th September 2017
The objective of this course is to focus in detail on the supply chain involved to produce pork and eggs. This will also include one of most important elements, animal feed.
It is a two-day course which costs £275 for members and £325 for non members; this includes overnight accommodation, all meals and transportation for the duration of the course. Delegates will be required to meet at the Mercure Hull Grange Park Hotel, Willerby on Tuesday 5th September 2017 at 9.00am.
The first day will focus on pig production and will visit Cattle Holderness Ltd, part of Buckle Farms Ltd which owns a 1,000 sow breeding unit. The unit is practically self-sufficient and operates using state of the art technology, so it is not surprising to learn they were voted “Indoor Producer of the Year” and “Producer of the Year” in 2015 at the National Pig Awards.
Delegates will also get the opportunity to visit one of the UK’s leading producers of fresh pork, Cranswick plc at Preston. The company firmly believes quality food sustainably and ethically produced is not a privilege it is a right of every consumer.
After a hectic first day, delegates will return to the Mercure Grange Park Hotel for a relaxing evening meal. The hotel does have gym facilities and a swimming pool.
Day two, will start bright and early with a visit to Thompsons of York Ltd an animal feed compounders they manufacture a range of animal feeds but the primary focus will be on pig and poultry feed.
Next, there will be a visit to Stephen Troup at Nun Monkton, a free range egg producer. The unit will only be partially stocked at the time of our visit, but this idea opportunity for delegates to actually see the unit in more detail.
To complete the process, delegates will visit Chippindale Foods, they have been “good eggs” since 1930. In 2013 they opened a new £5 million purpose built low carbon egg packing facility which handles more than six million eggs week.
Depending on timescales, delegates may also get the opportunity to visit Askham Bryan Agricultural College to see their vast array of different farm animals.
As always placed are limited to two per company and will be allocated on a strictly first-come, first-served basis. We would also like to reassure any delegates, they only need to see the meat processing that they are comfort with.
